Totally Compostable Bio Label
October 18, 2017

VBR is able to provide a fully thermal self-adhesive label totally biodegradable and compostable according to the UNI EN 13432 legislation, which is applicable to multiple sectors (food and non-food).
It is the first naturally thermal self-adhesive label with a natural closed cycle, since, after its use, it can be disposed with organic substances in composting centers.
The term “compostable” refers to standards related to the non-toxicity of the decomposed material when dispersed in the environment.
The compostability, according to UNI EN 13432 legislation, can be verified mainly by four criteria:
- Biodegradation: chemical breakdown of materials into co2 water and minerals. Pursuant to the standard at least 90% of the materials have to be broken down by biological action within 6 months.
- Disintegration: the physical decomposition of a product into tiny pieces. After 12 weeks at least 90% of the product should be able to pass through a 2×2 mm mesh And must have less than 10% lower than the initial mass.
- Heavy metals: verification of the level of some heavy materials such as mercury, lead, cadmium …
- Ecotoxicity tests: this involves making an examination to see if the germination and biomass production of plants are not adversely effected by the influence of composted packaging.
